TankDepot.co.uk Welcomes Scottish Oil Storage Regulations
August 29, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Leading storage tank supplier TankDepot.co.uk has welcomed the introduction of The Water Environment (Oil Storage) (Scotland) Regulations 2006, which came into force earlier this year, and represent the biggest change to oil storage requirements in Scotland for many years. The new Regulations apply to any kind of oil including petrol, diesel, mineral oil, heating oil, lubricating oil, waste oil, vegetable and plant oil. Whilst similar in some respects to The Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001, the Scottish regulations also cover the storage of Agricultural Fuel Oil. Previously agricultural installations fell within the remit of The Control of Pollution (Silage, Slurry and Agricultural Fuel Oil) (Scotland) Regulations 2003. Waste oils also fall within the remit of the Regulations, unlike in England, where the storage of waste oils is specifically excluded.
All new installations in Scotland (i.e. any installation commenced after 1 April 2006) must comply with the new Regulations by 1 October 2006. Existing 'at risk' installations (i.e. facilities that are located within 10 metres of any surface water or 50 metres of a borehole or well) will have to comply by 1 April 2008. And all other remaining installations that fall within the remit of the Regulations must comply by 1 April 2010.
Domestic installations with an installed capacity of less than 2,500 litres are not covered by the Regulations, but new or altered oil storage installations, should comply with the requirements of The Building (Scotland) Act 2003.
“As a responsible storage tank supplier, TankDepot.co.uk can offer a complete range of heating oil and diesel storage tanks which are fully compliant with the new Regulations” says a spokesperson for TankDepot.co.uk. “For commercial and agricultural diesel storage installations, we stock and supply a range of purpose designed diesel storage and dispensing tanks, from leading manufacturers including Harlequin and Titan Environmental. For oil heating installations, a massive range of integrally bunded tanks is now available, with capacities ranging from as little as 350 litres, right up to super sized 10,000 litre storage tanks.
“All tanks supplied by TankDepot.co.uk have been engineered to exceed the most demanding requirements and our range of bunded tanks and diesel dispensing tanks, are fully compliant with all relevant aspects of The Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001, The Water Environment (Oil Storage) (Scotland) Regulations 2006, British Standard BS5410 and comparable requirements throughout the United Kingdom.
“And with bunded oil storage tanks starting from only £335+VAT, diesel storage and dispensing tanks from just £895+VAT and waste oil tanks from £367+VAT, regulatory compliance has never been more affordable!”
