February 20, 2005 (PRLEAP.COM) Health News
Dallas, TX February 18, 2005. Mi-Co, the mobile data capture company, announced at the Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Conference and Exhibition in Dallas that the company is introducing a vertical Solution targeted to home health agencies. The solution, Mi-Forms for Home Health, provides state-of-the-art digital ink capture, handwriting recognition technology and data quality checks geared toward the unique needs of home health and hospice agencies.“I sincerely want to thank our customers for this product offering, because the home health solution from Mi-Co evolved from Mi-Forms mobile data capture implementations with such visionary customers as Wilson County NC Home Health Agency and the Boston Public Health Commission,” said James Clary, Mi-Co CEO.
Michelle Crumpler, a nurse who has used Mi-Forms in Wilson County stated, “It’s very beneficial out in the field. It’s actually cut out a lot of paper where we can spend more time with patients. It’s also good on holidays and weekends when the office is closed.”*
"The quick and secure processing of client data and the accurate and efficient reporting of information are two of the critical challenges we face in our home-visiting programs," said Claritza Abreu, Director of Information Systems Services at Boston’s Public Health Commission, "and the Mi-Forms solution has helped us meet these critical challenges. This technology gives our staff more time to focus on patient care, instead of data entry."
With customers providing the requirements, Mi-Co used its own Mi-Forms software development platform to rapidly go to market with a comprehensive data capture solution for home health.
Mi-Forms Home Health allows an agency to:
• Enhance standard or build new home health e-Forms for capturing data with handwriting input on the Tablet PC, the Digital Pen and other hardware platforms.
• Use the built-in data quality checks on the e-form regarding such items as patient signatures for meeting the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance regulations and identification of incorrect International Classification of Diseases (ICD) Codes.
• Send the verified data to backend systems used in the home health arena, which can be any system supporting HL7 (such as Horizon Healthware’s Promise System).
Specific components of Mi-Forms Home Health will provide a solution for nurses and other healthcare professionals who capture data “on the go” and want to get that data into the system as quickly as possible. This will increase the time spent with patients (rather than doing paperwork), increase the quality of data and reduce the time to get that information into the system to meet Medicaid and Medicare payment requirements.
Key components of the Mi-Forms Home Health Solution include:
• Mi-Forms Designer
• Home Health Starter Service
• E-Forms Pack with Skilled Nursing Visit and OASIS forms
• Mi-Forms Data Capture Client Software
• Mi-Forms Administrative Server Software
• Mi-Forms Integration and Communication Service
• Training for Form Designers, Administrators and Nurses
Pricing for the solution will be based on the number of nurses and other personnel that are capturing data. Pricing and general availability will be announced at the Mi-Co User Day on May 10, 2005 in the Research Triangle Park, NC.
