August 26, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Sports News
If you have an upcoming fantasy football draft, make sure to check out the most recent cheat sheets released at Fantasy Blitz. Fantasy Football magazines are sorely outdated this late in the summer, so don't rely on print material for your draft. Here is our rundown of the top 5 fantasy football quarterbacks for week 1 of the NFL season:
1. Peyton Manning, IND
Manning is a cut above all the rest, and quite possibly the best quarterback of all time. Last year he threw for 21 less touchdowns than his record breaking 49 TDs in 2004, yet he still finished #2 in passing scores.
2. Tom Brady, NE
Brady quietly had the best statistical season of his career last year, throwing for over 4,000 yards and 26 TDs. Right now his #1 problem is WR Deion Branch's contract dispute.
3. Matt Hasselbeck, SEA
Hasselbeck remains the signal caller for one of the league's most potent offenses. He threw for 24 TDs last year despite losing multiple WRs to injuries. Look for him to light it up in 2006.
4. Donovan McNabb, PHI
McNabb is out to prove that his 2004 success wasn't all about Terrell Owens. He's been looking sharp in the pre-season despite his lackluster receiving corps.
5. Eli Manning, NYG
Eli stepped out of his big brother's shadow last year by throwing for 24 TDs and 3,762 yards. With proven players like Barber, Shockey and Burress at the skill positions, expect Eli to improve on his 2005 numbers.
