New York, NY, August 21, 2006 — Veteran business book editor Jeffrey A. Krames has been named editorial director of Portfolio, the business imprint of Penguin Group (USA) Inc. He will report to Adrian Zackheim, the publisher of Portfolio, starting September 5.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for Portfolio to grow as we approach our fifth anniversary," said Mr. Zackheim. "Jeffrey is an outstanding editor whom I have long admired from afar. We are thrilled to be adding his talents to our already strong team."
Mr. Krames was most recently the vice president and publisher of McGraw-Hill's trade business books division. In his 24-year career he has edited and published more than 250 business books, including many award-winning, bestselling titles about business luminaries such as Ross Perot, Jack Welch, George Soros, William Paley and Lou Gerstner. Recently, Mr. Krames published seven of the 35 best business books of the year, as determined by Library Journal.
Mr. Krames is also a bestselling author in his own right, known for books such as the international bestseller The Welch Way; What the Best CEOs Know; and Jack Welch and the 4E's of Leadership, which was called a "leadership classic" by Kirkus. His work has also been published in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Barron's, the Financial Times, the Chicago Tribune, and the Los Angeles Times.
Portfolio, founded by Mr. Zackheim in September 2001, has published some of the most notable business bestsellers of the last five years, including Purple Cow by Seth Godin; The Smartest Guys In The Room by Bethany McLean and Peter Elkind; Perfectly Legal by David Cay Johnston; Trading Up by Michael Silverstein and Neil Fiske; The Art of the Start by Guy Kawasaki; The Search by John Battelle; Small Giants by Bo Burlingham; Pay it Down! by Jean Chatzky; Perfect Enough by George Anders; and Unstuck by Keith Yamashita and Sandra Spataro.
