Former Canadian university student discovers unique method for teaching English to students around the world without ever leaving his office in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. Upon finishing university, company founder, Marc Anderson discovered that a lot of his friends, who could not find jobs in Canada, were going overseas to teach English. Friends of his would basically pick a country in Asia, Russia, Africa, Central or South America and have several offers of employment. The huge demand for English teachers in these areas was far greater than the number of Canadian university students who were willing to make the commitment of living in a far off land. Mr. Anderson felt there had to be a better and less costly way of bringing teacher and student together. The solution came to him when he came across an article about students in China using Skype to connect with other Internet users that would speak to them in English. Mr. Anderson knew from his own experience that the best way to learn a second language was to talk directly to an individual whose mother tongue was English. When asked about the new service, Anderson said, “we can use free calls over Skype to offer a service that connects the individual trying to learn English directly to a qualified and motivated instructor in Canada who intimately knows the language. In this way we focus on the students needs and the process goes a lot faster.”The format is very simple and still in its infancy. When students register their needs and information with http://www.TalktoCanada.com, they receive a customized plan. Teachers setup programs for all levels of English comprehension and work with students either on a short term or long term basis. The sessions can range anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours at a time. The company works with business, government and individuals.
Whatever level of English the student is at, TalktoCanada.com gives them a better appreciation of English through live voice and video conversation. If the client is a business student, there are specific programs for learning business terminology and other content can be tailored to the students specific needs based on the information that is provided. When owner, Marc Anderson, was asked if this venture will succeed, he responded, “There is currently a large unfulfilled market for this service. I just don’t believe that we are reaching these consumers yet. Maybe potential clients are afraid of this new idea or don’t understand how it works, but I tell them to try just 30 minutes with us and they will see how it’s better than a textbook.”
The great thing about this new service is that clients can be anywhere in the world and as long as they have an Internet connection they can talk to English speakers from Canada at any time of the day or night. http://www.TalktoCanada.com is trying to reach the market that is under serviced by English teachers worldwide.
