TIAA-CREF BUFFALO BICYCLE CLASSIC, NAMED BOULDER’S #1 “COOL EVENT”
BY BICYCLING MAGAZINE, TO BE HELD SEPTEMBER 10, 2006
Proceeds to provide scholarships to students of CU’s College of Arts and Sciences
BOULDER, COLO …Cyclists of all ages and abilities are gearing up for this year’s TIAA-CREF Buffalo Bicycle Classic – also known as Ride the Buffalo – on September 10, 2006 in Boulder. Hard core cyclists can choose to ride the 100-Mile Century, 72-Mile, 50-Mile, 35-Mile, while for the first time, families and recreational riders are encouraged to ride the and 13-Mile “Little Buffalo” – a community fun ride sponsored by Elevations Federal Credit Union. Riders are encouraged to sign up fast, as the ride will be “capped” at 2,200, the expected number of riders, in order to maintain the fun atmosphere and integrity for which the ride has come to be known. In March, Bicycling Magazine recognized the BBC as Boulder’s #1 “Cool Event” in the magazine’s best cycling cities issue.
All cyclists participating in this fully-supported, fundraising ride will generate scholarship funds for students of CU’s College of Arts and Sciences. A minimum donation of $45 is required along with the registration fees, which are $15 for the Little Buffalo and $40 for all other ride lengths. The goal for this, the fourth year of the ride, is to raise $200,000, which translates into 100 scholarships. During its first three years, the ride has raised more than $300,000, making the BBC the largest single source of scholarship money in College of Arts and Sciences.
Ride the Buffalo starts and finishes in Boulder at the University of Colorado, Benson Field, across Colorado Blvd. from Folsom Field. The five courses traverse through northern Boulder and Larimer counties. The 13-mile is a community cruiser ride around Boulder; the 35-mile course is a fun ride in Boulder County to St. Vrain Road, on to Hygiene, and back past the Boulder Reservoir; the 50-mile ride challenges riders north of Berthoud and back; and the 72 and 100 mile Century ride for hard-core cyclists winds past Carter Lake, with the Century continuing to Horsetooth Reservoir and home.
Ride registration fees are $40 ($15 for the 13 mile ride) plus a minimum donation of $45 each, for a total minimum of either $60 or $85. Registration for all rides includes a Ride the Buffalo t-shirt, water bottle, great aid station treats, breakfast, and lunch. Jerseys, socks and other merchandise are available separately. An expo featuring our sponsors will be held at the start/finish where riders can win raffle prizes and enjoy after race food, beverages and entertainment. Riders of all abilities, 10 years and older for the 13 mile ride, and 12 years and older for the longer lengths, are welcome to choose the length of ride that fits their capabilities.
Riders can register online before noon September 9, 2006 at www.ridethebuffalo.com. Walk up registration is available the day of the ride. For information, call 303-735-1569 or email bbc@colorado.edu. ###
