Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) Launches Digital Library on AIP's Scitation Hosting Service

Melville, NY - The American Institute of Physics (AIP) and SIAM today unveiled the new SIAM Digital Library powered by Scitation. The SIAM Digital Library consolidates the Society's core publications into a single, seamless online reference resource, which includes SIAM's 13 journals and Locus, SIAM's online journal archive, spanning the years 1952-1996.

"In today's scholarly publishing environment, it's critical that we stay on top of new developments and features as they evolve," said Mary Rose Muccie, SIAM Publisher. "By moving SIAM's electronic journals to Scitation, we're better serving our membership and the broader audience of researchers worldwide. We're confident that the many new innovations AIP has developed for us will keep SIAM on the leading edge of scholarly publishing well into the future."

Users of the digital library will benefit from a number of features that Scitation has developed specifically for SIAM. These include:

—BibTeX Citation Article Views (including DOI) - With BibTeX, a bibliography is automatically made when a file is processed. This ensures consistency, ease in changing bibliographic styles, correct numbering and sequential ordering of entries, and that only entries in the bibliography of the final document are cited in the body of the document.

—New Outbound Reference Links - Two new links have been created from the reference citations to the information-packed Inspec and MEDLINE databases.

—LaTeX Acceptance and Conversion - This will allow SIAM to generate XML "heads" and "tails" for each article and create HTML tables of contents, abstract displays, reference links, and searchable database records. These page views will also generate the links to the article collection features, searchable database features, and user-navigation links.

Digital library users will also enjoy many other features that Scitation can enable for its more than 150 hosted publications. These include free cross-journal searching and the ability to view individual articles online before the entire journal is printed, in addition to the following powerful features:

—Contents Alerts - Users can chose to receive e-mails containing the table of contents for any SIAM journal via a link from each journal's home page. RSS feeds are also available. Receive updates when new content is posted to a SIAM journal, without having to check individual journal homepages. Feeds include the article title, a short description, and a link to the full text.

—Personalization Toolbox - MyArticles allows users to build collections of articles and share them, along with free abstract views, with colleagues. MyPublications gives users links to the home pages of all journals on Scitation to which they have subscription access.

—Download this Citation - Citation information may be downloaded for each article in BibTeX, EndNote, Refworks, MEDLINE, or plain text formats. More format options are forthcoming.

—Multimedia Files - Users can launch multimedia files from links in full-text PDFs and in article abstracts.

Institutional subscribers will see no interruption in their access. Individual subscribers will be able to access their online subscriptions after reregistering with Scitation.
