Teenagers Taking Over Times Square
August 18, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Lifestyle News
"MySweet16online.com's public relations team was hard at work in Times Square. Walking up and down the streets of New York City with the 24"" x 18"" sign shouting ""MySweet16online.com, Gather Online Resources In Sweet 16's!"" People were turning heads and obviously looking for some free handout. But, no sir… This team was out to get everyone's attention and create a stir about MySweet16online.com's website. They were even seen on the internet on Earth Cam's Times Square cameras holding up the sign on 42nd Street and 7th Avenue in New York City. A teeanage pedestrian, Jesse Cardenas, said… ""A walking-talking advertisement? What will they think of next?… New York is the place to be if you wanna see all the crazy people and have fun. I love it. I love New York, but I'll be back in 4 years since I'm off to college in Tallahasee, Florida."" When we asked him if he ever heard of MySweet16online.com he said… ""Of course, all my teenage girl-friends did their Quinceanera or their Sweet 16 party and they all have their own space on it. I guess because of MTV's Super Sweet 16 show all the girls are crazed about becoming finally 16. I'm always getting asked if I wanna be in a Sweet 16 party. They're really fun, but it gets pricey after being in so many of them. My next one is in September.""
The rest of the public relations team put in their two cents, as well. The oldest was Danielah. She had her sweet 16 two years ago in Florida and had all of her family members visit. ""I was so happy to see all of my cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, padrinas y padrinos! But I was really nervous too. At one point there were 18 of my family members on a plane from New York, just to be a part of the most wonderful day of my life. That freaked me out until I found out they safely landed back home. The party was a hit. There were friends and family from New York, California, Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Maryland, Dominican Republic and some other places. The first thing I did was to create my ""WebSpace"" as they call it and start inviting my guests from there. The best part of it was that the WebSpace was free and private. Only the people I invited could see my information. I don't remember if MySpace.com was around back then, but my parents wouldn't have liked the idea of having ""The World"" look into our lives. Now I'm here promoting MySweet16online.com to make a couple of bucks in the summer.""
Carolina is now 14… going on 30, but first making a pitstop at 16. She says she wants to go all out when she turns 16. She was also out to make a few bucks this summer by walking around Times Square with the MySweet16online.com signs to create a stir. She said, ""We teenagers are replacing the Times Square billboards.""
Crystal had her Sweet 16 last summer and created her own WebSpace. ""It was the coolest thing. It was like… MySpace on steroids. I loved it, I loved my party and I love my parents for making my dream come true. I found my DJ, Photographer, Catering Hall, Videographer, Limousine and Bartender all in the website. I knew that all these people were specialists in Sweet 16 and Quinceanera parties and they knew that no alcohol would be served to the kids. The day was fascinating. There isn't a day that goes by, that I don't relive pieces of my special day. I really felt like Cinderella with all the attention. All of my damas and chambelanes were mostly family, and some friends. Since I come from such a big family, I was able to get most of my cousins to participate. It's a family event and I think every girl should have one. It's not like having a wedding, to me this is more special because it's all about me. Mua! When I get married, I wanna have a girl or two and make an even bigger sweet 16 party for them. You just get hooked on this party planning stuff. My mom and dad say that I should become a party planner. They say that Sweet Sixteen parties and Quinceaneras are a labor of love. Dahhh! Of course it is. You gotta love it! It's alot of work, but it's also alot of fun. The best part about my party was the choreography. I had the best dance choreographer in the world… my sister, Arlene. She is a great dancer and she knows how to handle all the kids… including yours truly. Ahhh, I just can't stop thinking about that day!""
Jeffrey and Adam were their ""Body Guards"". Teen bodyguards. These sexy mamas were out of any danger with these two hunks. Nobody came close to the girls without passing by the two studs. They have both admitted to being part of Quinceanera and Sweet Sixteen parties, but are both happy that they are not girls. ""It's too much work"", said Jeffrey, a Junior at St. Francis Prep in Queens. ""I have too much on my mind for this sort of stuff. School. Tests. I'm on the basketball team. Summer work. And finally, summer camp at Five-Star Basketball. I wanna be in the NBA and this camp is regularly visited by most of the NBA players. I even work there part-time during the summer. It's really cool and I get to meet lots of famous people. Anyway. I'm glad I'm not a girl"".
Adam is on his way to St. Francis College, this fall and has been in way too many parties. From being a Caballero to being a Ring boy… he's done it all. They were the best times of his life. ""Party Party Partay"" he says. He's a very good dancer and likes the attention. ""It's like being on a play or putting together a dance routine. I should have been a dancer. I guess it's not too late, right? Anyway, I protect the girls and my little sister Amy is our boss. She tells us where to go next and how to promote the MySweet16online.com website"", Adam complained. Amy later said, ""This is so much fun, that I feel guilty getting paid for it. What could be easier than meeting people and giving them a pamphlet that tells them to visit http://www.mysweet16online.com ? It's funny that I am the youngest one in the group and I can tell them all what to do. I have the best organizational skills and can multitask. I gotta keep on eye on my crew and make sure that everything goes as planned. It's all work and only some-play. You know how teenagers can get. Gotta crack that whip!"" Shouted the 16 year old girl. "
