DONNELLY, Idaho – Tamarack Resort is thrilled to be named the final stop on the country’s greatest snowboard competition series, the 2006-07 Chevrolet U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix. On February 24-25, 2007, U.S. Olympic medalists and world-class snowboarders will go head-to-head at Tamarack on a mammoth 22-foot halfpipe and on a specially-constructed snowboardcross course.

“With the spectacular showing by the 2006 US Snowboard Olympic Team, coupled with Tamarack’s ongoing commitment to providing world-class snowboarding amenities and events, hosting this series stop was a no-brainer,” said Jim Spenst, VP of Operations. “We’re excited to bring hundreds of high-level snowboarders to the resort, and look forward to the excitement and economic impact that thousands of spectators and competitors will bring to the Payette River Mountains region.”

The Grand Prix series kicks off in Breckenridge Resort, CO on December 14-16, and then heads to Mountain Creek Resort, NY on February 2-4, before concluding at Tamarack on February 24-25.

Field sizes will be made up of about 90 men and 40 women in each of the halfpipe contests at all three venues. Only Tamarack Resort will host a snowboardcross [SBX] event, expected to field about 100 men and 30 women.

According to Grand Prix Tour Director Eric Webster, “The terrain at Tamarack seems like it was made for a world class SBX event.”

Also setting Tamarack’s stop apart will be the resort’s 22-foot SuperPipe, making Tamarack only the second U.S. venue to host an elite-level competition in a pipe of that size.

“We are leading the way nationally with our focus on snowboarding and we will bring in special equipment to carve one of the country’s biggest SuperPipes for this event,” says Spenst. “The attention an event of this caliber will bring to our resort and region is immeasurable.”

Millions of viewers nationwide will be introduced to Idaho and Tamarack through event broadcasts on NBC and special rebroadcasts on the Outdoor Life Network.
