PHILADELPHIA (Aug. 16, 2006) – To commemorate the memories of those lost on 9/11, Public House at Logan Square will sponsor a benefit golf outing and fundraiser on Mon., Sept. 11 to benefit Hold the Door For Others.Hold the Door for Others is a non-profit organization inspired by the acts of bravery and kindness on Sept. 11, 2001, and is dedicated to empowering people to grow through loss and adversity to achieve their dreams. Hold the Door For Others was founded by the family of Ronald Carl Fazio Sr., of Closter, NJ, who was last seen shepherding his friends, colleagues and total strangers to safety as they evacuated the 99th Floor of Tower II of the World Trade Center. Literally, Fazio bravely “held the door for others” so that they might escape safely and return to the love of their families. The group empowers those affected by tragedy to learn the necessary life skills to prepare for, live with and grow through loss.
“This year will mark the Fifth Anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11,” said Gary Cardi, principal, Public House. “The partners and staff of Public House, like all Americans, continue to be devastated by the loss and wanted to find a way to honor those who died in the attack. We felt that sponsoring a fundraising event for Hold the Door would be a positive way to honor and remember those who were lost.”
Public House will host the outing at The Club at Shannondell in Audubon, Pa., on Mon., Sept. 11. Registration and breakfast will begin at 8 a.m., followed by remarks and a memorial observance at the exact times both Towers were struck; a shotgun start will then commence at 10 a.m. Each golf outing ticket includes: golf, cart rental, Continental breakfast, lunch, beer/non-alcoholic refreshments and admission to the fundraising event at Public House later in the evening. Prizes such as longest drive, lowest score and closest to the pin will also be awarded. Tickets are $125 per golfer and are available at www.publichousephilly.com or by calling 215.587.9040. Hole and prize sponsorships are also available upon request.
Immediately following the golf outing, Public House will also host an evening fundraising event that is open to the public. Public House will provide an open bar and complimentary food to every guest making a $40 donation to Hold the Door for the Others. In total, the Public House Sept. 11th Golf Outing and fundraiser is expected to raise well over $15,000, with 100 percent of the proceeds donated to Hold the Door for Others. When purchasing golf outing or evening event tickets, or to make a donation, please make checks payable to Hold the Door for Others.
“Death is the only certain thing in life, yet we don’t talk about it or prepare for it,” said Robert Fazio, Ph.D., president and co-founder, Hold the Door for Others. Dr. Fazio currently resides in Center City and is the son of the late Ronald C. Fazio Sr. “By coming together as a community with a common purpose we can raise awareness and support to help others help themselves grow through loss and adversity. The funds raised by Public House will go directly toward our upcoming Hold The Door Day, a day where people come together and learn how to grow through loss.”
