Andrew Dickson of Andrew Lane Wines to Share History and Vision of Gamay Noir with Napa Valley Wine Library Association

August 12, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Lifestyle News
Attendees are invited to join an intrepid band of wine explorers as they guide them through the uncharted world of non-Cabernet reds! Lunch will be provided by Julia’s Kitchen. The wine panel will be composed of Andrew Lane, Nils Venge and Ray Courson. Tickets are available at http://www.napawinelibrary.org for $125 per person.

The winery recently introduced its award-winning 2004 Gamay – which has the mouth-feel and velvety texture of a Pinot Noir, but with a more vibrant, red fruit character. It offers a lively bouquet and flavor of fresh red cherries, red currents, with touches of strawberry and spice on the finish.

The 2004 Andrew Lane Gamay is produced from 50+ year-old vines, one of the last remaining Gamay vineyards in Napa Valley. Often described as a California Rhone, Gamay Noir a’Jus Blanc is closely related to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and is the primary black grape of France’s Beaujolais region.

Gamay Noir enjoys a long and interesting history in Napa Valley. Once grown in abundance in Napa Valley, it is mostly considered a prized relic today. Most Gamay Noir vineyards have been displaced to produce more California-renowned wines including Cabernet, Chardonnay, and Merlot.
