Most recently, Art of the Song has increased its New England presence by airing as a special on New Hampshire Public Radio. Art of the Song continues to air twice weekly on early adopter WUMB in Boston. Written, produced, and hosted by cultural creatives Vivian Nesbitt and John Dillon, Art of the Song is a well-balanced program distributing airtime between interviews and program topic related music. Featuring in-depth dialogues with artists of folk, jazz, roots and blues music, the unique program also supplements two refreshing segments, Creativity Corner and the Song Analyst.
“Art of the Song resonates with a growing audience of creative people that support building a community around sharing the process of creating art,” say Producers and Co-Hosts Nesbitt and Dillon. “We have formed the program with the objective of satisfying both the left and right brain simultaneously. As a result, our listeners approach the construction of art from both an intuitive and technical level.”
Vivian Nesbitt and John Dillon have collaborated on numerous creative projects over the years, including an upcoming album of original music.
Producing music and theater events for 25 years, Viv’s creativity has afforded her many opportunities as an actor, including Broadway and national television. Viv was also co-creator and co-producer of a television series for Mongolian State Television featuring His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Richard Gere & Keanu Reeves. As a professional musician for over 30 years, John has released three albums of original music and is also nationally known as a luthier having built custom guitars for Trisha Yearwood, Steve Earle, Tish Hinojosa and the Mavericks.
John and Viv arrange the layout of each program to take the listener through the creative process of their featured guests. Through a combination of interviewing, storytelling and playing complete songs, Art of the Song balances the program with both music and commentary. Two complementary aspects to the talk portion are the Creativity Corner and the Song Analyst. Creativity Corner offers listeners insightful tips and perspective on creativity as part of everyday living. The Song Analyst provides insight into the process of songwriting, interesting to musicians and non-musicians alike.
