Romanelli Stands Firm In PA Senatorial Race
August 09, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Politics News
Wilkes-Barre, PA—The Romanelli campaign took great care in collecting signatures with the proper notarization and using the best practices to their knowledge.Carl Romanelli says, “We are confident that the Bob Casey challenges to our signature petitions will not be successful. With the line challenges, the Casey campaign hopes to eliminate signatures on the basis of the equivalent of “hanging chads” in the signatures. They hope to find technical errors, which could disenfranchise tens-of-thousands of Pennsylvania voters. In some cases signatures could be eliminated for reasons such as because the signers had moved since they signed the petition, because the signer did not include the date, did to put in their middle initial or another trivial reason.”
“Today Bob Casey and his campaign revealed their Achilles heal today. They are loosing liberal and progressive voters. When they challenged Romanelli’s signatures, they blinked. They let us know what they are thinking, that they fear they cannot hold on to Pro-Choice voters and constituents calling for a smart and swift end to the war in Iraq,” added Romanelli.
Bob Casey and Rick Santorum needed only needed 2,000 signatures to get on the ballot. Carl Romanelli originally received over 100,000 signatures and the Bob Casey campaign wants to deny Romanelli the right to participate in the Democratic process, that we love.
Pennsylvania Ballot Access laws need reform. They are among the most difficult in the nation. This is a hot button issue and we encourage everyone to educate themselves on the issues surrounding Pennsylvania Ballot Access Laws in Pennsylvania by visiting www.paballotaccess.org.
