Indian Filmmaker Wins Moondance Award for Screenwriting

Deepak Arora was named the winner of this award for his screenplay ‘Queen of the jungle’ in the category of Feature Screenplay for Kids.

“I am honoured with this appreciation of my talent and feel proud for being the first Indian to have received this award” said Deepak, who wrote this screenplay which raises concern over the issue of Tiger Poaching.
The Moondance Film Festival, which is popularly known as ‘American Cannes’ is in its seventh year and is voted amongst the top independent film festivals of the world. It is aimed at presenting films that raise awareness about social issues.
Some well known American celebrities attended the ceremony, including Susan Sarandon, Burt Reynolds, Phyllis Diller, William Hurt and Ted Danson.

The screenplay is for an animation film and is about a 10 year old boy named Ron, who comes to India from USA wishing to see a tiger in the Jungles of India. In a freak stampede, he gets lost in the jungle. And then begins an adventure of his life, where he meets a tigress whose cubs have been abducted by poachers and becomes a companion in her search for them.

A documentary and corporate film maker by profession, Deepak Arora now hopes that his screenplay is produced into a film so that the message of “Save the Tiger” reaches the entire world over.
