Baxa Corporation Releases Abacus™ v2 Order Entry and Calculation Software for TPN

Englewood, Colo. – Baxa Corporation announces the release of version two of its Abacus TPN Calculation Software. Abacus v2 is a Windows®-based software application used for total parenteral nutrition (TPN) order entry and compounding. Designed by health-system pharmacists, the software ensures safety and reduces the opportunity for user error in the prescribing, calculating and mixing of multi-source compounds.

“This new version of Abacus has significant advantages over the previous release,” affirms product manager Tim Kingsford, “It includes improved functionality over the previous release and addresses customer needs to ensure that Abacus is the safest tool available for pharmacy compounding.”

Abacus is the only Windows-based software application designed for safe pharmacy compounding for TPN products. Versions are offered to support stand-alone compounding for calculation without an automated compounder, single-workstation for driving one compounder and multi-workstation for order entry from multiple locations within a single facility. The Abacus Suite of products provides built-in safety features such as barcode generation, and user customization for warning limits, ordering templates and security. A graphical user interface and drop-down menus make Abacus easy-to-use and facilitate pharmacy staff training.
