JERICHO, N.Y. August 9, 2006 — Prominent citizens from area businesses are being accused of “having a big heart for Jerry’s Kids.” These local leaders from Nassau County businesses are volunteering to be “arrested” and “serve time” in a mock jail at the Milleridge Inn in Jericho on Thursday, August 10, 2006, in an effort to raise money for the local Muscular Dystrophy Association.

This will be the third year for the Milleridge Telethon Executive Lock-Up for MDA. Bruce Murphy, who owns and operates the Inn, will host the event along with the team from MDA’s Lake Success office. The Lock-Up will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the historic Milleridge Inn, at 585 North Broadway Jericho, N.Y. Each participating “jailbird” will be sentenced to “raise bail” by calling friends and encouraging contributions to support MDA’s efforts against neuromuscular diseases.

About 100 area executives and business owners have signed up to serve their sentences “behind bars” for MDA. Jailbirds come from many different Nassau County businesses and organizations. The jailbirds who have pledged to raise the highest amounts during the Lock-Up include Andrea Cannavina of Legaltypist, Butch Hurley of Nassau Candy, Roger Ciacco of Satty, Levine & Ciacco and Alan E. Lurie of BOA Handcuff Company.

As a Telethon Executive Lock-Up, jailbirds and the people who donate money will have the opportunity to be recognized on MDA’s annual Labor Day Telethon, which will air locally on WWOR-TV MY 9 on September 3 and 4, 2006. Any individual or company that donates $100 to the Lock-Up will have their name appear on the Telethon; $500 donations will receive a Silver Star on the Telethon and $1,000 donations will be recognized with a Gold Star on the Telethon.

For more information, about this Lock-Up or to learn about planning and participating in other MDA fundraisers and programs, please contact the local office at (516) 358-1012 or visit www.mdausa.org.

MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat neuromuscular disease through worldwide research, comprehensive services, and far-reaching professional and public health education. MDA funds ground-breaking medical research, local support groups nationwide, and over 230 clinics across the country. In addition, MDA runs summer camps every year for children with muscle-wasting diseases. The summer 2006 camp for Long Island kids will be in Spring Valley, NY in late August.
