MIAMI, FL – August 6, 2006 – Math Monkey™, a Miami-based supplemental education company that teaches Vedic math, has reached a critical point in the business: It is now opening franchises in South Florida and beyond. To help ensure the success of franchise members, company officials have hired Randy M. Corona, a 20-year franchise industry veteran, to serve as Chief Operating Officer (COO).
“Math Monkey has been built over the past year to prepare ourselves to start franchising,” said Kirsten Fisch, president & CEO (Top Banana) of Math Monkey. “People buy franchises because the system offers simple and reliable support, because there is a strong return on investment and because it makes them feel good about their careers. Our job is to ensure these three things are a stable constant going forward.”
“Randy was specifically brought in because he has a history of making franchises succeed,” Fisch added, noting Corona’s hiring is part of the company’s comprehensive business plan.
“And part of our commitment to delivering a great service and a great brand is to make sure future franchises succeed,” she said. “Randy has worked at the senior level of three major franchise companies. His guiding role was to ensure the future of the franchise by serving as the advocate for its success. That is what he will now be doing for Math Monkey.”
In his new role, Corona will concentrate on the company’s profitability, brand management, franchise development, training, proactive marketing and delivering consistent value to franchise members, Fisch said.
Before joining Math Monkey, Corona served eight years as president/COO and vice president of operations for Signs Now Corporation. Under his leadership, the company consistently produced the highest profit in the organization’s history, more than doubling the previous high mark.
Corona attributes much of the company’s success to his franchise member relations program, which included feedback forms, surveys and a franchise advisory board, integrating franchise member involvement into the company’s management functions.
Corona, who resides with his wife in Bradenton, Fl., said he looks forward to expanding the Math Monkey franchise system by adding value to each franchise member’s experience within the system.
“In my role as Chief Operating Officer, I seek to further the corporate goal of Math Monkey to build a strong, consistent operating system that succeeds at every level,” Corona said. “I am confident that through training, strategic marketing and a team-oriented approach, Math Monkey can equip franchise members with the most effective means necessary to enrich children through Vedic math.”
Based on ancient Indian texts, Vedic math is a unique system of calculations that can be easily applied to arithmetic. At the learning centers, children ages six to 10 use Vedic math to solve mathematic problems within seconds – without the use of paper or a calculator.
The first Math Monkey™ Knowledge Center opened this summer in Weston, a community in south Florida, and instantly sold out many of its classes. Fisch said the corporate goal is to open company-owned and franchised learning centers throughout the country, equipping American students with an important tool to excel in mathematics.
Corona completed his graduate business degree and undergraduate degree from Texas State University. He served as executive vice president of Ace Drug Marts in Austin, TX from 1983 until 1986 before serving as district manager and long range planning manager for Bill’s Dollar Store from 1986 until 1989. Corona then served as national operations manager for American Fastsigns before becoming president/COO and vice president of operations for Signs Now Corporation in 1998.
