"cranked guitars, power drumming, and howled lyrics…Like High on Fire and Wolfmother, this blazing Texas quartet does metal the old-school, elemental way — with tons of low, thick, doomy, chugging guitar riffs and the sporadic short solo hammered into your skull with thunderous beats and evil grooves while an Ozzy / Lemmy-like singer wails away." - PHOENIX NEW TIMES (July, 2006)
"The band's debut album, "Age of Winters", tells of sorcery, horned goddesses, ancient battles and the slaying of spider priests, tales adorned with nothing more than killer riffs. If one freely worships at the temples of Iommi, Osbourne, Ward and Butler, then embrace the kindred spirits in THE SWORD." - ST. LOUIS RIVERFRONT TIMES (July, 2006)
"To be honest, it's impossible to even talk about THE SWORD without mentioning BLACK SABBATH. At their finest, THE SWORD channel Tony Iommi's guitar work at his uncompromising and unapologetic best: heavy meat hooks and thunderous, cloudy grooves. To the next generation of up-and-coming heshers, weaned on manufactured mall punk and abysmal nü-metal, THE SWORD are a desperately needed shot in the arm." - SEATTLE STRANGER (July, 2006)
"axe-wielding metal warriors…monolithic riffs. Simply put, these Texas-based berserkers are heavy as fuck" - KERRANG!
"THE SWORD's music is a clinic in SABBATH-influenced heavy metal…molten riffs lay waste to everything within earshot" - MAGNET
"An impressive debut that as well as praying at the altar of Sabbath tips nods to such metal greats as Maiden and the unrelenting attack of the likes of Prong. Expect big things." - METAL HAMMER
"Sternum-crushing doom metal" - SPIN
"Stomping all over many of its celebrated peers, this is a miasma concocted of elements of Black Sabbath, Melvins, Slayer, Kyuss and Trouble. Huge, heavyweight anthems that plunge headlong into timeless riffery. A colossus of a record." - CLASSIC ROCK
"this band from Austin, Texas, emulates Sabbath's slow menace, the quartet also reveals its hard-core underpinnings with intermittent thrash bravura." - THE NEW YORK TIMES
"Unleashing a powerful and heady brew of masterful heavy metal, THE SWORD are a mighty proposition and deserve to be heard…gigantic" - ROCK SOUND
"The new classic-Black Sabbath platter you have been waiting forever for the old Sab's to make…THE SWORD believe in loud the way it used to be" - ROLLING STONE
"bombastic" - TERRORIZER
"It's BLACK SABBATH all over again, only this time they're from Austin, TX instead of England. THE SWORD takes that initial SABBATH rush like no other band since and revitalizes it…incredible." - METAL EDGE
