“Who Says You Can’t Go Home?” Not Bon Jovi, and not Hey Tiger, the local band that recently opened for the rock superstars at Giants Stadium. The Hoboken based band, featuring Christina Alessi on vocals and guitar, Josh Bicknell on drums, Wayne Dorell on guitar and keyboards, Jim Lovegrove on bass and Damien Musto on guitar, is excited to announce a string of New York and New Jersey shows in the months ahead.Hey Tiger’s first area gig is Saturday, August 5th at Mercury Lounge, 217 East Houston Street in New York City at 10:00 PM. “We’re excited about returning to the Mercury Lounge. It’s one of the best sounding rooms in New York City,” says guitarist Musto. Knowing that Lou Reed, Joan Jett, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead and others have played on that stage makes you rise to the occasion!”
Lead singer Alessi, praised for her solid vocals and commanding stage presence, will perform solo acoustic on Thursday, August 17th at the Goldhawk, 936 Park Avenue in Hoboken, NJ at 8:00 PM and Thursday, August 24th at Café Arabica, 78 Speedwell Avenue in Morristown, NJ at 8:00 PM. “Playing solo is a different vibe than playing with the full band,” she explains. “You can only rely on yourself to connect with the audience. You have to keep the performance both intimate and intense.”
Then, on Friday, September 22nd, Hey Tiger comes home to Hoboken for a show at Maxwell’s, 1039 Washington Avenue at 9:00 PM. “It’s always great to play in Hoboken, especially at Maxwell’s,” enthuses guitar and keyboard player Dorell. “We always get a good turn out, and there’s a real sense of community between the bands. Everyone seems to come together there.”
After submitting their debut record September to WPLJ-FM, Hey Tiger was chosen to compete against four other unsigned bands at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ. A panel of four judges from the radio station (Theresa Angela, Brad Blanks, Matt Sucich, and Suzanne Schneider) selected them as the winner.
“We work so hard on every performance and every song,” says Alessi. “Seeing our efforts recognized is incredible. We are so thankful to everyone at Saturn and WPLJ and especially Bon Jovi for giving us this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
Hey Tiger had the chance to thank WPLJ personally when they appeared on The Big Show with Scott Shannon and Todd Pettengill on July 18th.
