IrishDev.com – introduce Job alerts by RSS

July 26, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
IrishDev.com, the web site of the Irish ICT Network, Ireland's largest professional ICT association today upgraded its technology only Jobs Portal to provide customised Job Alerts using the popular RSS (Really Simple Syndication) system.

RSS enables internet users to subscribe to feeds that notify them of updates from a content provider. Today this enables CNN and BBC to broadcast latest stories to their RSS subscribers or Bloggers to update their readers as they post new articles. By reducing inbox clutter RSS has replaced email as the number one method of receiving content updates from web site providers.
Jobs.IrishDev.com is the first Jobs Portal in Ireland to apply the system to delivering Job Alerts.

Using RSS instead of email provides a range of benefits to stakeholders. Like the web, RSS is free of the inbox and universally available.

Job Seekers are discreetly updated by their favourite desktop, web or mobile RSS reader without the need to constantly revisit a web site. Alerts are issued in real-time, so candidates gain a competitive advantage over non RSS job seekers as positions become available.

From basic searches like “Java Contract”, to complex plain English queries, “Show me the latest .NET jobs in Dublin from Peter at SHR”, our intelligent customisation system allows RSS subscribers to personalise the job alerts they receive.

Using RSS to escape the inbox removes spam, viral threats and reduces inbox clutter. It also allows candidates to keep up to date without being pressured to divulge their email addresses.

Recruiters benefit from faster responses to jobs advertised as the positions are delivered directly to candidates, meaning employers can initiate interviews ahead of rivals and agencies can qualify and present candidates ahead of their competitors.

Speaking at the launch Clare Dillon, from Microsoft Ireland said “Microsoft believe RSS is a very significant development and will be including the functionality within IE7, the next generation of web browser and Windows Vista, the next version of our operating system. It’s great to see RSS job alerts from IrishDev.com and the growing Irish interest in RSS services.”

“Today our network reaches 2,000 email subscribers but nearly 10,000 RSS subscribers. As Rupert Murdoch said on acquiring MySpace.com, we are simply following the audience,” Patricia McGill, Director of FirstPort News.

“Jobs by RSS are so obvious but what other Irish Portal has the technical resources available to implement the system?” Neil Flynn, IT Pro Consultant at IT-Talent.

“RSS gives candidates a ‘live’ advantage over email subscribers when seeking a new role. For agencies it provides a faster response time and gets the jobs filled faster,” Cormac Moore, ICT Manager Eden Recruitment.
