Children Who Ride in Shopping Carts are Vulnerable to Germs and Viruses

Monroe, Mich. — Parents of young children know that dangers from germs, viruses, and diseases lurk everywhere, even in the most unexpected places — like shopping carts.

Shopping carts, especially the handles, pose a health hazard to children and their parents by exposing them to germs that can cause many illnesses.

“The fact that shopping carts are contaminated is real, and they are a major contributor to a huge public health problem,” explained Al Dandy, inventor of The Healthy Handle at http://www.TheHealthyHandle.com.

People with dirty hands, people with illnesses, young children who drool, and babies who are teething all contribute to the variety of dangerous germs and viruses found on a typical shopping cart handle. Tests has shown that shopping cart handles are one of the most contaminated public surfaces.

In recent studies, shopping cart handles tested positive for bodily fluids such as, blood, saliva, mucus, and even urine and fecal matter. Scientific research has proven the danger of spreading illness by hand contact with these and many other contaminates, according to Dandy.

The Healthy Handle easily slips over a shopping cart handle. The Healthy Handle, constructed of materials that resist contamination, provides a barrier of protection for the shopper, drastically reducing the opportunity to spread viruses and bacteria, Dandy said. It is re-useable, practical and discreet.

The idea for The Healthy Handle came when Dandy’s wife cut her hand on a broken piece of plastic on a shopping cart handle. “There’s got to be a way that people can be protected while using a shopping cart,” she told him. And he set out to do just that.

The Healthy Handle is built to fit all types of shopping cart handles. It is easy to use and dishwasher safe. It can be put on and then removed from a shopping cart without directly touching the shopping cart handle itself. It takes protection a step further than antibacterial wipes, he said.

“After extensive research, it didn’t take long to figure out that the chemicals in a wipe or spray do not make a shopping cart handle 100 percent safe,” Dandy explained. “I’m talking about total elimination of contamination, not just certain bacteria or viruses. Using a wipe only eliminates some of the contaminants, leaving many others. Using a wipe gives a false sense of security.”

The Healthy Handle does not remove the contamination. Instead it simply acts as a barrier, or shield between humans and a shopping cart handle.
