GREATER MIAMI VALLEY CITIZENS SEND LOCAL YOUTH
TO MDA SUMMER CAMP
DAYTON, Ohio, July 22, 2006 – Over a dozen youth from cities throughout the Greater Miami Valley will be attending the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s (MDA) annual summer camp at Camp Joy in Clarksville, Ohio.
MDA camp programs offer the unique experience for young people ages 6 to 21 with neuromuscular diseases to participate in a variety of events created to develop friendships, share
interests and build confidence. This year’s camp theme, “The Amazing Race,” features International foods, face-painting, “Soak-the-Fool,” a visit with local fire fighters and motorcycle
rides with Harley Davidson riders.
The camp will kickoff Saturday, August 5 and end on Friday. August 11.
This camp would not be possible without the support and continuous participation from the citizens of Greater Dayton Area. The cost of sending one child to MDA summer camp for one week is $600. The hard work and effort put forth by our local communities in various year-round fund-raising events enable these adolescents to experience a wide range of activities specially designed for young people who have limited mobility or use wheelchairs at no cost to their families.
MDA (www.mda.org) is a non-profit organization not funded by United Way or the Federal Government and is the number one provider of neuromuscular research. This voluntary health agency works to defeat more than 40 neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services, and far-reaching professional and public health education. The largest fundraiser for MDA is the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon, which will be featured locally on ABC-WKEF Channel 22 beginning at 11:35 p.m. September 3 and continuing through 7 p.m. on September 4.
