Don’t Forget to Add Shots to School Supply List

July 21, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Health News
The Texas Department of Health requires that all students get their shots before starting school, and thousands of El Paso students have yet to get all of their required doses. “Most El Paso area school districts have adopted a ‘No shots, No classes’ policy," warns Dusty Warden.

Over the past year, several new immunizations have been added to the regiment of routine childhood immunizations including vaccines to guard against rotovirus, pertussis, as well as new several combination vaccines.

ProAction is partnering with area school districts to provide low-cost immunizations through July and August. “With Medicaid eligibility requirements stiffening, we are concerned about children who have lost coverage and can no longer see their physician. We understand that diseases don’t stop at borders or discern people’s immigration status. The low cost immunization clinics can help curb outbreaks of vaccine preventable diseases.” said Warden.

Immunization outreach clinics will span across all parts of the city. ProAction will also be expanding their clinic hours this week in anticipation of larger than normal crowds. A list of immunization locations and times can be found at www.ImmunizeElPaso.org or by calling 915/533-3414.

Vaccines for children are only $10.00 per child, regardless of the number of shots needed. Medicaid and CHIP will also be accepted.
