Jailbirds’ are each encouraged to raise $1200 in bail money. This bail amount will send two local children to MDA’s Summer Camp for children affected by neuromuscular disease. MDA’s Summer Camp lets kids experience a wide range of activities specially designed for young people with limited mobility. MDA Summer Camp allows campers to develop friendships, share interests and build self-confidence.“The Minneapolis Business Executive Lock Up is an important part of our fundraising efforts leading up to the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon. It is fantastic to see business leaders setting an example through initiative and giving back to the community in which they work,” MDA Regional Director Trendy Stanchfield said.
This year’s Lock Up will include MDA’s gourmet version of bread and water provided by NBA City. Upon arrival, jailbirds will be “booked”, processed and receive VIP treatment. Activities include access to the VIP players’ section of the restaurant, door prizes, and a Minnesota Timberwolves grand prize package. The event will allow jailbirds to mingle and network with other business leaders in Minneapolis. A limousine will be provided for jailbirds in downtown Minneapolis. Incentives for jailbirds include dinner gift certificates, NBA memorabilia and invitations to appear on the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon on September 4, 2006.
MDA is providing jailbirds the opportunity to create their own web page to help them raise bail. By contacting Rebecca Rust at rrust@mdausa.org jailbirds can learn how to customize their page with a photo and e-mail the link to friends, family and co-workers who will be able to make a secure donation on-line.
Proceeds from the Lock Up will not only benefit MDA’s Summer Camp, but also assist more than 2,000 families in the Greater Twin Cities. MDA (www.mda.org) is the number one provider of neuromuscular research and relies almost entirely on private donations. MDA receives no funding from the United Way or the Federal Government. This voluntary health agency works to defeat more than 40 neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services, and far-reaching professional and public health education.
