Dr. Thomas Lockamy to Speak at First City Club CEO Lecture Series on September 7th

(Savannah, GA) Dr. Thomas Lockamy, Savannah-Chatham County Superintendent of Schools, will speak at the First City Club CEO Lecture Series luncheon, September 7th. The topic will be “Things to Come.”

Dr. Lockamy has held leadership roles within the field of education for over 40 years. He is currently serving as the Superintendent of Schools for the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System. Prior to this, Dr. Lockamy served as the Deputy Superintendent for the Norfolk Public School system in Norfolk, VA, where he managed a staff of 129 school administrators, including assistant superintendents and administration department heads. Dr. Lockamy has held a variety of positions in his long career in education, including Assistant Superintendent, Academic Affairs and Accountability from 1996 – 1997; Assistant Superintendent, Division of School Governance from 1994 – 1996; Assistant Superintendent, Elementary Schools from 1990 – 1994; and Director, Department of Instruction from 1985 – 1987. He began as a teacher in Fayetteville, N.C. in 1966 and became principal in Camden, N.C. in 1971. Dr. Lockamy holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, a Master of Arts in Education Administration, and an Advanced Masters in Educational Specialist, from East Carolina University, as well as a Doctor of Education in Education Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.

Dr. Lockamy is passionate about education and building a world-class school district. According to Lockamy, his key attributes are his excellent human relations skills, the ability to work with a diverse student population, and an extensive knowledge of assessment and accountability.

Of his many achievements, he states that one of his greatest accomplishments is “completely eliminating the achievement gap in reading.” Additionally, in Norfolk under his leadership all high schools achieved 80 percent or better on the state standards test in algebra and the third grade ranked 75 percent proficient or better in Math.

The First City Club lecture series, featuring Dr. Thomas B. Lockamy, is open to the public. The luncheon begins at 12 p.m. at the First City Club, located on 32 Bull Street. The cost is $16.95 per person which includes lunch and lecture. Call 238-4548 for reservations.
