Cancer Survivor Story Website aims to raise $500,000 in 50 days.

San Antonio, Tx June 30, 2006 — An inspired son decides to challenge the world in a quest to raise $500,000 in 50 days in order to help his mother win her battle against cancer. He has launched a new website www.mymomhascancer.com, with the hope that he can raise a half million dollars in the next 50 days to cover the costs of recieving a bone marrow transplant.

“The purpose behind my site is not only to raise money for my mother, but also to provide an avenue for cancer survivors to inspire people to fulfill all their dreams ” says Shabbi Khan, founder of the site www.mymomhascancer.com. The site aims to collect one thousand stories from cancer survivors and hopes to create a community that will inspire cancer patients who are fighting the disease as well as inspire people from all walks of life in achieving whatever they want to do.

Khan confesses that he would never have made this site if he weren’t inspired by his mother and the stories of so many cancer survivors. After his mom was denied assistance from many cancer societies and any state or federal assistance, he was disillusioned by the response of the cancer agencies and decided to take matters into his own hands. “After reading so many survivor stories, I truly believe nothing is impossible. I know there is hope out there but you have to believe in yourself and strive hard to achieve success.” says Shabbi Khan.

www.mymomhascancer.com was originally created to raise money for his mother’s treatment and he has not lost sight of that goal. However, he feels that the site should not end once he has achieved what he wants. He aims to continue this site to help other families afford their cancer treatments. Even though this site may not generate a lot of financial donations, the site will be active in arranging for funds by pressuring charity organizations to sponsor families who do not have insurance. Also, once he collects his thousand stories, he will arrange for publishers to publish a short stories book with proceeds going towards helping other patients receive financial assistance for their treatment.

The site intends to raise money by seeking sponsors for each of its stories. Each story will be sponsored for $500 with a maximum of ten people to sponsor a story. The site will also try to target corporate sponsors but Shabbi Khan believes that corporate sponsors will only come once the site becomes a popular visiting site. “I firmly believe that by getting some media attention to this site, many cancer societies and corporations will offer to defray the cost of treatment” says Shabbi Khan.

Finally, Shabbi Khan says regardless of how much he collects for his mother’s treatment, he will continue to work on http://www.mymomhascancer.com. “Even though I may not succeed in achieving my goals, I will continue to provide millions of other people the opportunity to inspire themselves and hope that they can successfully achieve whatever they aim for.”
