MDA SENDS 22 CHILDREN TO SUMMER CAMP AT CAMP BURNT GIN

WEDGEFIELD, S.C., July 3, 2006—The Muscular Dystrophy Association will send 22 children with neuromuscular diseases to its annual summer camp June 30-July 5, 2006 at Camp Burnt Gin in Wedgefield, S.C. for a wonderful week of fun and lasting friendship. Press, MDA sponsors and volunteers are invited to VIP day on Monday, July 3, 2006 where they can enjoy a lunch provided by O’Charlies and enjoy a treasure hunt with the campers.

MDA camp programs offer the unique experience for young people with neuromuscular diseases to participate in a variety of events created to develop friendships, share interests and builds self-confidence. This year’s camp theme “Camp-a-lot” features medieval games, treasure hunts, castle making competitions (cabin decorating) and a drive-in-movie.

Events for youth and young adults ages 6-21 begin Friday, June 30 and end on Wednesday, July 5.

This camp wouldn’t be possible without the support and continuous participation from the citizens in North and South Carolina. The cost of sending one child to MDA summer camp for one week is $600. The hard work and efforts put forth by our local communities enables these adolescents to experience a wide range of activities specially designed for young people who have limited mobility or use wheelchairs all for free.

MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat 43 neuromuscular diseases through global research programs, comprehensive patient and community services and far-reaching professional and public health education. Each year MDA provides more than 4,000 youths the opportunity to attend summer camp.
