TEMPLE, Texas—700 Bell County business and community leaders will go “behind bars for good” to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. They will be detained in a mock jail at Texas Roadhouse Restaurant on Thursday, June 29. Participants are picked up in limousines and escorted to “jail” at the restaurant, where they are sentenced by the South Texas Gunfighters and the Coryell Cowboys, who are running the jail for the day. After getting their mug shots taken, they are placed “behind bars” and make phone calls to post “bail” all while they are treated to a meal.
All money raised supports the Waco chapter of MDA. In Texas, MDA offers 4 summer camps, over 20 support groups and clinics, and more than $1 million in research grants to state hospitals and universities.
