Mark Rushton and Jon Harnish Release New Live Soundscaping Musical Podcast

Mark Rushton's recent podcast (#13 - "Brine") features a single 14 minute piece of music, a variation on his track called Brine, which was recorded with bassist and effects player Jon Harnish from the Ambient Matyk Cafe in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Brine is slightly more industrial and rhythmic in nature than recent ambient/electronica pieces in other podcasts. When some people hear the word "industrial" they think of loud or clunky music. Brine is more hypnotic and ethereal, like a factory or power plant off in the distance at night.

This version of Brine was created on June 10th of 2006, and it showcases Mark Rushton on laptop, loops, and live mixing, and Jon Harnish on bass guitar, effects, and electronic rhythms.

Rushton and Harnish had planned to do improvisational ambient soundscaping in public in Iowa City, but it had been raining all day and the temps were about 50 degrees with 20 mph winds, unseasonably cool for mid-June, so they thought it would be better to play indoors and booked the Ambient Matyk Cafe on short notice.

Rushton has been releasing his music in podcast form via the internet since 2004 and currently has several thousand listeners worldwide.

Rushton's latest CD, Hum And Drift, is now available in digital download format at iTunes, and can be purchased in compact disc format at Amazon.com, BuyIowaArt.com, Tower Records, and numerous other stores.

Rushton and Harnish plan to release an album of music in the latter part of 2006 that they've collaborated on.
