Scotch Plains, NJ, June 18, 2006 — On Saturday, July 15, the DisneyWorldTrivia.com Dream Team expects to reach its goal of securing the necessary funding to sponsor a pediatric cancer patient from the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center on an all-expense paid trip to Walt Disney World when they hold an auction of over 60 Disney-related items and collectibles. The auction will be held at the third annual Fred Block's Northeast Disney Fan Meet at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Allentown, PA. All proceeds will be donated to the Starlight Starbright Children’s Foundation for the express purpose of funding the trip. The fundraising effort, which has been spearheaded by DisneyWorldTrivia.com owner and webmaster, Lou Mongello, of Scotch Plains, NJ, has seen monetary donations as well as donations of Disney items and collectibles for the auction come from a variety of sources, including visitors to the site, other Disney fans, and from members of the DisneyWorldTrivia.com “family.” The prized possession at the auction in Allentown will be a one of a kind original painting graciously donated by Disney Design Group Artist, Brian Blackmore. The full-color acrylic-on-canvas painting, a private work created by Blackmore in his home studio that depicts Disney’s Donald Duck dancing and playing a banjo, is mounted in a beautiful gold frame and was most recently displayed in the Art of Disney Gallery in New York City. It was also featured in the March 13, 2006 issue of People Magazine in a photo with celebrity host, Michael J. Fox, commemorating the gallery’s opening.
Mongello, who is the author of The Walt Disney World Trivia Books (Vol. 1 and 2) and co-host of the popular MouseTunes.com Podcast, donates a portion of all proceeds from the sale of DisneyWorldTrivia.com logo merchandise on his site to the Starlight Starbright Children’s Foundation to sponsor a child’s wish to visit Walt Disney World. He knows first-hand the pain cancer can inflict on victims and their families, having dealt with it in his immediate family. In an excerpt taken from his website, he states, “A child and (his or her) family who may be suffering physically, emotionally and spiritually, are also often struggling financially to pay for hospital bills and other medical expenses. Not only is it difficult to deal with the illness itself, but often children are confined to a hospital or bed. By granting their wish to go to Walt Disney World, we…can help make a child’s life a bit brighter by spending some time away from the hospital, and in one of the happiest places on Earth.”
