Glendale, CA-Echelon Studios’ new acquisition “Gulliver’s Travels” leads the way in the wave of 3D animated feature films produced out of India. Long thought of as a step behind the international animation community, India’s leading animator Pentamedia Graphics and entertainment mogul, Mayajaal Entertainment Limited, recently animated Jonathon Swift’s classic novel “Gulliver’s Travels” to wide acclaim. The fortuitous collaboration resulted in consideration for an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature in 2005. Although “Gulliver’s Travel’s” did not receive an Oscar nomination, mere consideration by the Academy was an enormous step forward for Indian animation. The 74 minute computer animated “Gulliver’s Travels” is one of the first animated English films from India. Combining a time-tested adventure story and the latest in Indian animation, “Gulliver’s Travels” was released theatrically in India to box office success. Considered one of the pioneers of the Indian animation industry, Pentamedia Graphics and Mayajaal Entertainment Limited created a number of animated features before embarking on the ambitious English 3D animated “Gulliver’s Travels.” Their film “The Pandavas, The Five Warriors,” won the National Award for Best Animated Film and the second Best Animation Feature Film Award at the prestigious Vancouver Animated Film Festival in 2001.
Immediately recognizing the opportunity to work with India’s rising animators, Echelon Studios President and CEO Eric Louzil acquired “Gulliver’s Travels” in mid June. Echelon
Co-CEO and President of Development, Gloria Morrison was enthused to follow the success of Mayajaal’s latest animated film. “Not only is Bollywood becoming a force of nature theatrically, but animation from India is rapidly achieving the success of its western counterparts.”
