Leadership is a Moral Calling

Many politicians are not true leaders. Dawit Isaac holds firmly to the belief that political leadership should be more than a career. It should be a moral calling. Mr. Isaac expresses frustration with the decisions of our current governments. Fragmentation, he says, is not the way to build a strong country for the future. Citizens and politicians, different levels of government and provinces need to abandon the competitive mindset that we have been fostering. Canada has so much potential, but without leaders with vision, it will all be wasted.
Voter apathy, government scandal, and public disengagement are products of an undirected government, states Dawit. He believes younger generations have a right to be discouraged. The current leadership has done very little to inspire individual citizens, but, he says, there is still hope.
For Mr. Isaac, issues like Healthcare, Education, Social Justice, and Environment take priority. He believes they should be addressed in a way that incorporates the opinions of Albertans, but also considers the global community at large. Is it possible to find such a balance? According to Dawit, it is. Balances between local and global, political and spiritual, and firm goals and public input are what Dawit hopes will transform Alberta and Canada.
With a Provincial Election on the horizon, Dawit anticipates opportunity for improvement. Forget traditional ideology, abandon political titles, burst out of the unproductive groove we’ve dug ourselves into, he urges. Now is the time for inspirational leaders. Mr. Isaac hopes to see a leader who supports a moral agenda and stands behind his word no matter what. The question is, who will take the stand?

Background:
Dawit Isaac grew up in Ethiopia under a tyrannical government before moving to Canada. It was here that he voted for the first time and has been intrigued by Democracy and Leadership ever since. Dawit has studied Business, Economics and Theology. Currently, he is focused on community building here in Edmonton and leads the “Community of Grace” Church. In his own words, Dawit strives to be a “catalyst for the community”.
