For The Greensboro Flight Standards District Office
Local Community Volunteer Recognized By The Federal Aviation Administration

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Margaret C. Riddle received the Safety Counselor of the Year for the Greensboro Flight Standards District Office (FSDO) award from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for volunteering in the FAA Aviation Safety Programs, teaching Certified Flight Instructor seminars and safety seminars, as well as teaching the flight portion of the WINGS program. The Pilot Proficiency Award Program (WINGS) is a 20-phase program that encourages general aviation pilots to continue training while providing an opportunity to practice safety maneuvers with instructors. Riddle also served on the WINGS planning committee that organized the WINGS weekend event.

“I am honored to receive this award from the Federal Aviation Administration,” said Riddle. “The Pilot Proficiency Award Program is an excellent opportunity for pilots to learn the necessary and critical techniques of safety, and I am pleased that I can serve as a volunteer for this program.”

About Federal Aviation Administration:
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was established to provide the safest, most efficient aerospace system with a goal of improving the safety and efficiency of aviation, while being responsible to its customers and accountable to the public. The Pilot Proficiency Award Program (WINGS) was established to encourage safety practices for certified general aviation pilots. After three hours of program instruction, candidates attend a FAA sanctioned safety seminar and then are eligible to receive a distinctive set of wings. The 20-phases of the program encourage pilots to return year after year for the next 20 years to acquire more wings each year. For more information of the FAA or the WINGS program, please visit the Web site www.faa.gov.
