On June 2nd, 2006, The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), arrested 17 people in connection with suspected terrorist activity on Canadian soil. In the following days, after charges had been filed, it emerged that these individuals were suspected of plotting major terrorist incidents in Canada, inspired by the Islamist fanaticism of Al-Qaeda and its leader, Osama bin Laden. Many Canadians were stunned to learn that aspiring Jihadist terrorists were operating on Canadian soil. The author of a novel about an Al-Qaeda nuclear terrorism plot, "King of Bombs," believes no one should be surprised by Jihadist activity in Canada, and it is very likely that far more dangerous threats originating in Canada may emerge in the future.
Sheldon Filger, who wrote his book about nuclear terrorism after experiencing the horror of 9/11 while residing in New York City on September 11th, 2001, now makes his home in Canada. His novel is, in essence, a fictional account of the next 9/11, in which Al-Qaeda's plan involves smuggling a nuclear device from Canada into the United States, with the ultimate goal of detonating it in a major American city.
"The Canadian border represents a porous frontier of 4,000 miles, with infinite possibilities for smuggling personnel and, far more worrying, weapons of mass destruction, into the United States," Filger said. "As a relatively safe base for Al-Qaeda to plan and stage major terrorists operations directed at the U.S., Canada is an eneticing territory. It would be very surprising if Al-Qaeda did not have operational and sleeper cells present on Canadian soil," he added.
"King of Bombs" involves a chilling scenario, in which CSIS initially picks up clues that Al-Qaeda is using Canada for the purpose of organizing a vast conspiracy involving nuclear terrorism and inflicting a follow-up to the 9/11 attack on a America that will potentially be the ultimate nightmare for America.
