GENERAL RACING LTD. ANNOUNCES TOYOTA AS NEW PRESENTING SPONSOR
OF THE ROLEX MONTEREY HISTORIC AUTOMOBILE RACES
BUELLTON, CA (June 9, 2006)—Steven J. Earle, president of General Racing LTD and founder of the annual Rolex Monterey Historic, announced today that Toyota will be the new presenting sponsor of the Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races. Now in its 33rd year, this year’s Historic will be held from Friday, August 18 through Sunday, August 20, 2006 at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California.
“As one of the world’s finest automobile manufacturers with a strong commitment to motorsports, we are thrilled to have Toyota join us as the presenting sponsor of the Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races,” said Earle. “Toyota’s enthusiastic support of the Historic will not only enhance the event’s primary mission to present and preserve race cars from the past, but will also offer visitors the opportunity to explore Toyota’s own distinguished automotive history.”
Toyota’s sponsorship activities, shared with its luxury line Lexus, will benefit fans and competitors alike—ranging from new exhibits and displays to special events in the paddock, expo and on the track.
“This partnership with General Racing and the Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races allows Toyota to look back at and to share with event visitors and participants its nearly 50-year history in America,” said James Farley, vice president of marketing, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. “We are looking forward to creating an exciting showcase of our most memorable automobiles, including ’58 Toyopet Crown and the ’67 2000GT, that have influenced American car culture.”
From timeless classics to multi-million dollar collectibles, visitors to the 33rd Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races Presented by Toyota will see some of the finest cars ever produced in action, as they compete in 14 race groups spanning nearly every era of motorsports history. Historic IMSA, Trans-Am and Formula 1 cars and early Grand Prix greats like Maserati and Bugatti, will be among the more than 400 vintage race cars, from a wide range of makers, to tackle the historic Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca track during the three-day Historic weekend.
