June 05, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Entertainment News
Mark Rushton and Jon Harnish will be performing ambient and electronica soundscaping in downtown Iowa City at City Plaza (commonly known as the "Ped Mall") on Saturday, June 10th from 6pm to 9pm. This is a free event. Rushton and Harnish will be located at the mini-stage area, near the Sheraton Hotel, Public Library, and fountain. Rushton and Harnish performed in the Ped Mall twice during 2005, once in September and another time in November. Each performance was recorded and some tracks were released via podcasts available on the internet from podcast.markrushton.com and iTunes. The two podcasts featuring music from the Iowa City performances have subsequently been downloaded a combined total of over 10,000 times to a worldwide audience. The June 10th performance will be recorded and, if usable, will also be available as a download in the form of a podcast in MP3 format.
On Friday, June 30th, Rushton and Harnish will be on the bill with other artists who will be participating in Experiment 2, a noise, audio, and visuals show at the Emerald City Ballroom in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Tickets are $8. For more information visit emeraldcityinfo.com
Mark Rushton uses a computer to mix and arrange pre-determined sets of audio loops. Rushton has released two CDs that are also available in digital format via iTunes: 2004's The Driver's Companion and 2005's Hum and Drift. He also released the 121-track odds-and-ends "Florilegium: MP3s 2000 to 2003" data CD, along with creating over 20 podcasts and offering up numerous free MP3s.
Jon Harnish plays bass guitar, effects, and provides tempered bass feedback. Harnish has played in the past with guitarist Keith Levene (ex-PiL) and DH Peligro (ex-Dead Kennedys), as well as prolific multi-instrumentalist Nik Gerboth.
