Web Offers a Solution for a Swollen Eyelid Sufferer

Great Neck, N.Y., June 5, 2006—Bob Winman had all the symptoms of “pink eye,” but the antibiotic drops his doctor prescribed didn’t do much to reduce the swollen eyelids, itchy red eyes, and frequent burning. On a visit to his optometrist, he was told he might have blepharitis, a condition usually more annoying than harmful, and he was given an antibiotic ointment that could only be applied before bedtime because it blurred his vision. Once again, the results were disappointing. So he turned to the Internet to conduct his own research. Bob had seen an article about www.healthsiteguide.com (HSG) which was touted as a free portal to many pre-searched healthcare information sites. When he came to the home page, he saw a graphic that read “Healthcare Information Fast,” which allowed him to access online medical encyclopedias. He chose one and searched blepharitis and found out it was a chronic disease that was difficult to treat. But he already knew that, so he kept searching that site and others that were easily accessed through HSG.“Health Site Guide was incredibly extensive and I was able to search through many databases,” said Bob, who eventually found a simple treatment regimen that worked. “I also used the site to access videos and animations of other healthcare issues that either I or my family was dealing with at the time. Needless to say, I was impressed.”
What Bob found during his investigation was a way to clean the eyelid area using hot compresses and, of all things, Johnson’s Baby Shampoo.
“It was the “no tears” formula and it worked great. Soaking my eye in hot water every morning and night and applying a 50% mixture of shampoo and water to the edge of the eyelid with a cotton applicator worked much better than the antibiotics. In about a week or so, the eyelid inflammation was reduced to where it was really unnoticeable and the itching and burning stopped,” said Bob. “I probably could have investigated the condition using a search engine, but I had done that before and found that I was reading an article that was four years old. Besides, Health Site Guide had an enormous amount of information with special features that were pre-searched and linked directly to many healthcare information websites.”
Started by a marketing executive who like so many others searched the web to learn about a medical condition, then scrolled aimlessly down the results page, www.healthsiteguide.com features overviews of leading websites, written by an Internet and medical savvy staff; and special features with topics that include drug information, videos, animation, medical encyclopedias, human body atlas, interactive tools, health insurance, caregiving, nursing home info, and much more. Plus there are several hundred health concerns which link to leading healthcare sites. The user can search these sites for the information they need.
www.healthsiteguide.com is completely free and even includes a membership area where registered guests (who provide a nickname and password only…no personal information is ever required) can participate in forums or create their own, have a personal page, create a blog, download information, receive news, and more, making www.healthsiteguide.com a fully interactive and informative experience.
“The search is over for Internet visitors who use keywords and search engines to access medical information. Our professional staff has done the searching for them, allowing them to access healthcare information faster and easier,” said Bob Lipp, president of Health Site Guide, Inc. “We understand that many people who use the web for healthcare information often have a certain degree of anxiety and concern as they seek answers to a situation affecting them or a loved one. We hope to get them to their destination faster, and provide the information they need from the many leading sites included in our portal.”
