Honolulu Freight Service, the largest and oldest dry and refrigerated cargo surface freight forwarder to and from the Hawaiian Islands, announced that it has named Fred Faria manager of HFS Specialized Cargo, Honolulu Freight’s newest freight division. Under Faria’s leadership, the HFS Specialized Cargo Division enables Honolulu Freight to offer services for shipments that are oversized and beyond the confines of a container, and will be available initially between the North American Continent and the Hawaiian Islands, Guam, Micronesia, Polynesia, and Southeast Asia. “Fred is very experienced in providing solutions for the oversized cargo market, and we are pleased to welcome him to our freight family,” said Mike Beidleman, president of Honolulu Freight Service. “Fred shares our customer-first focus, and is also dedicated to working closely with our customers to provide seamless transportation services for goods that don’t conform to a typical cargo container. Fred and HFS Specialized Cargo are both exciting additions to Honolulu Freight, and we look forward to continuing to provide our customers with the superior service and support they have come to expect.”
Faria began his maritime career in 1968 at Pier 35 in San Francisco, where he drew stow plans for the Matson ‘White Ships’ SS Mariposa and SS Monterrey. Over the years, Faria has also provided his expertise and leadership to numerous companies and projects. He participated as an operations leader to containerize Dole pineapples from the Philippines to the United States, as well as worked as an operations and sales leader to containerize Dole bananas from Porto Cortez, Honduras to Galveston, Texas.
Faria was also part of the first team to containerize shipments of military Class 1 explosives from Port Chicago, California to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii by Tug/Barge, and helped move several self-propelled and towed vessels stowed with equipment and products to build the Palau Compact Road in the Republic of Palau. Other accomplishments include working as a team leader in the vessel charter and movement of a missile launching silo from the Columbia River to Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands, and in the movement of several barge loads from The Mainland to The Big Island that allowed fiber optic cable trenches to be built to Hawaiian Home Lands Properties.
“I’m very excited about joining the Honolulu Freight family and being named manager of HFS Specialized Cargo,” said Faria. “I’ve had the opportunity over the years to work on some very interesting projects, and I’m looking forward to helping Honolulu Freight’s customers move a range of cargo throughout Pacific Oceania, including Hawaii, Guam, Micronesia, Polynesia, and Southeast Asia.”
