Candy Marcum, Dallas City Council Candidate for District 14, has submitted financial reports for the period ending December 31, 2004. Marcum's financial reporting reflects contributions of $79,114 raised since resigning from the City of Dallas Board of Adjustment on September 21, 2004 and filing a campaign treasurer appointment of Dallas business leader and District 14 resident, Trammell S. Crow. Contributions range from $12.50 to $1,000 with an average contribution of $347. Twenty-nine contributors have contributed to the maximum of $1,000 for a City of Dallas Council race. The report includes contributions from 226 individuals and one political action committee. There are 111 contributions from District 14 residents. Marcum comments "My campaign team and neighborhood advisory group have been working hard with a series of events and coffees. We are honored by the large number of contributions to my campaign and very happy with the number of contributions from District 14 neighbors."
"I am proud our fundraising has been successful in such a short period of time", said Marcum. The race for District 14 is certainly a crowded field and by meeting our fundraising goals, we are on track for directly communicating with my neighbors about my long-term commitment and involvement in Dallas and how we can work together to build a stronger Dallas."
Records show that the closest opponent has raised $23,603 in contributions with $10,231 in political expenditures. An additional candidate has reported $10,950 raised with $8,229 spent.
Voters throughout District 14 will have the opportunity to elect a new member to the Dallas City Council from District 14 on May 7, 2005. The open seat for District 14 is a result of the term limit of Councilwoman Veletta Lill. District 14 consists of neighborhoods including East Dallas, Downtown, Uptown, Oak Lawn, and the Love Field area east to the Park Cities.
A network of neighbors throughout the district and longtime District 14 leaders including former State Representative and DISD Trustee Dr. Harryette Ehrhardt and State Representative and former Dallas Area Rapid Transit Board Member Terri Hodge have endorsed Marcum's candidacy. Rep. Hodge represented several District 14 neighborhoods prior to the redistricting of the Texas Legislature in 2000 and Rep. Ehrhardt represented East Dallas and Oak Lawn Neighborhoods of the district in the Texas legislature and on the DISD board.
In addition, Marcum is proud to announce the endorsement her candidacy by District 14 resident and former Dallas City Councilman Craig Holcomb, Mayor Pro Tem John Loza, and District 3 Dallas City Councilman Ed Oakley.
