Americans Across the Nation Complain “I Can’t Afford to Put Gas in My Tank! What Can I Do?”
May 31, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
For Immediate ReleaseMADISON, WI — U.S. motorists are paying up an average of $2.92 per gallon, up from $2.22 a year ago and $2.58 just last month, according to AAA motor club. Last week Energy Secretary Sam Bodman said gasoline prices are a “crisis” for Americans. At the same time, the scientific community is reaching consensus that car emissions are creating rising concentrations of carbon dioxide “greenhouse gas” in
the atmosphere, which leads to global warming.
Hybridfest 2006 will attempt to address these issues and offer solutions that can begin to help people deal with the daily realities of oil dependency, global warming and sustainable energy. Hybridfest 2006 is the largest gathering of hybrid electric vehicles in America and showcases an incredible opportunity for people to learn how these vehicles can make an immediate impact on their lives and each of those
environmental issues.
Hybrid technology can be a key element in the US strategy to address our growing energy insecurity and environmental problems. Hybrid vehicles are poised to serve a key role in reducing oil demand and global warming emissions over the next two decades. They offer a solid midterm strategy of investment in energy security, environmental responsibility and will fill the gap between current technology
and future alternatives. Hybridfest 2006 will illustrate the fact that hybrid vehicles today are approaching the efficiencies that the government is projecting for fuel cell vehicles 10-15 years from now.
These serious matters will be addressed by various speakers at Hybridfest 2006 including:
• David Morris: Vice President of the Institute of Local Self Reliance. Morris has researched hybrid vehicle technology, biofuels and net energy, and renewable electricity.
• Dr. Jon Foley: Director of SAGE (UW’s center for Sustainability and the Global Environment), and named the 2006 Gaylord Nelson Distinguished Professor. Recently featured in the HBO special
“Too Hot Not to Handle,” he has researched how global environmental systems interact with human societies.
• Francis Vogel: Executive Director of Wisconsin Clean Cities. Wisconsin Clean Cities promotes reducing oil dependency and global warming gases through the use of clean transportation alternatives.
• Dr. David Travis: Chair of Geography at UW–Whitewater, and major contributor to the recent NOVA special on the dimming sun. He has researched jet contrails and climatic land atmospheric
interaction.
Hybridfest 2006 will be held in Madison, WI, on Saturday, July 22, 2006, from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M., on
the grounds of the Alliant Energy Center, as part of the Dane County Fair. More than 100 hybrid vehicles
from all over the U.S. and Canada will be on display. General Hybridfest activities are free and open to the public, with free parking.
Attendees will be able to:
• test drive hybrid vehicles
• meet auto dealers
• view interactive exhibits
• listen to industry and environmental experts
• talk with hybrid owners
• see one of a kind vehicles like the EV-1, a diesel hybrid SUV, and plug-in hybrids.
Additionally, pre-registered Hybridfest attendees ($25 fee) will have access to special activities such as:
• A MPG Challenge test course
• discounted hotel rate
• awards dinner with keynote speaker
• seminars on advanced driving techniques, current and future hybrid technology
• seminars on global warming and sustainable energy
