Film star adds face to Amnesty International petition

Actor Richard E Grant added his face to Amnesty International's Million Faces Petition at the University of East Anglia in Norwich this week.

The star, who has written and directed the soon to be released film Wah-Wah said, "Amnesty International does great work and I am more than happy to add my face to a petition that relates to a very serious issue. It is so important that both governments and the UN take notice and listen. '

'If the Arms Trade is controlled properly it will save thousands and thousands of lives every year, all over the world. Amnesty International need another 100,000 faces to reach their target, so I urge everyone to add their face before the crucial United Nations conference in June".

The Million Faces petition is collecting photos and self portraits from around the world to reach it's goal of one million faces by June 2006. They will use these faces to send a powerful, global message of support to the world's governments for an International Arms Trade Treaty.

Kevin McGarahan of the Norwich Amnesty group "Richard is one of over 900,000 people who have so far added their face to our petition. In the 100 days leading up to the June's UN meeting, over 100,000 people will be killed by armed violence. Thousands more will be hurt or seriously injured. '

'That is an incredible statistic but it is so easy to buy cheap weapons that carnage is inevitable. This is mainly down to a lack of global control on the arms trade. Adding your face to our petition is something that only takes a few seconds and can be done online. It is an important issue that everybody should be concerned about."
