London nutrition and food consultancy Foods For Life are passionate about food and are obscessed with having their cake and eating it without repercussions on health. The criteria for The Foods For Life awards are products that are both delicious and nutritious and reflect the ingenuity amongst UK manufacturers in the health food industry.
There are three finalists for 2006.
Plamil Foods sugar free, dairy free hemp chocolate.
Redwood Wholefoods Fortified Cheatin Veggie Mince with extra protein and vitamin B12.
Carleys - a small family business who make the most incredible Hemp Nut Butter.
Foods For Life founder, nutritionist Yvonne Bishop-Weston says "All three companies have ensured that optimum nutrition has never been so delicious and made it easier than ever to get an optimal daily amount of plant protein and essential fatty acids"
For pure innovation and tenacity an award should probably go to the two entrepeneurs who have taken on the big boys of the pharmaceutical industry and against all odds brought out a plant based DHA and EPA product. V-Pure is the World's first plant based vegetarian/vegan product that combines both the omega 3 long chain fatty acids DHA and EPA. They have brought the benefits of fish oil to millions of Vegans, vegetarians and environmentalists who won't eat fish. Following all the fuss about toxins in fish oil it's set to be a market leader within a few years.
Yvonne comments "I agree V-Pure is a very worthy product, but we want The Foods For Life awards to concentrate on delicious foods and not get embroiled in dietary supplements. If they decide to make it into a delicious drink then we may consider that for next year."
Redwood's director makers of the fortified mince said the nomination was "Wonderful news" and was obviously delighted at the prospect of yet another award to put in their trophy cabinet.
Redwoods recently won an award for their frighteningly realistic chicken pieces which would send shivers down the spine of most hardcore vegetarians.
