To celebrate Fathers Day in their own way, the veterans of Boot Camp are
inviting "rookie" dads-to-be to learn from their experience, and to see for
themselves the amazing things babies can do. All dads, of course, are
welcome to join in and celebrate the simple joys of being a dad, and offer
their own advice to the rookies.
Hit The Ground Crawling: A Celebration By New Fathers will be held at Babies
R US located at 26532 Town Center Drive in Foothill Ranch, CA on Saturday,
June 3rd from 10 AM to Noon.
Sharing Wisdom, Gaining Knowledge
Veteran dads will pass on what they have learned and orient dads-to-be in
their natural habitat - having fun with their babies in a typical Boot Camp
"nursery in a locker room".
Rookie dads who attend will be able to glean trusted information from
experienced fathers and get some answers to their questions from a man's
perspective. They'll also have an opportunity to gain hands-on experience
with babies at a Boot Camp For New Dads workshop which will be held during
the event. All dads will also be able to trade ideas for making the most of
fatherhood with Greg Bishop, Boot Camp for New Dad's founder and author of
Hit The Ground Crawling: Lessons From 150,000 New Fathers.
Making It An Adventure, or What Happens When Men Are Put In Charge Of Babies
Boot Camp's experience reflects what the researchers have said -men connect
with their babies by imagining what they will do together as they grow. So
if a dad likes to surf, fish, work on cars, climb mountains, play football,
etc., or would like to start, they should start dreaming! And if they do,
either it will happen, or other great adventures will!
"The world of babies has been turf owned by women since the beginning of the
human race. Now that we are starting to get our share, it is clear that we
men, and our babies, have been missing out for far too long."
To help them along at this special Fatherhood Celebration, veteran dads can
get a professional photo of themselves with their baby having fun in a
variety of sets, from teaching his baby to golf, ride a Harley, fix an
engine.even bench press.
Participating dads will also obtain:
. Orientation on car seat installation
. Raffle prizes of items that dads and baby can use
. Discount shopping coupons for June 3rd only
. Complimentary copy of Dad's Adventure magazine

About Boot Camp for New Dads
Today's dads have many new opportunities to be part of their children's
lives. Boot Camp For New Dads can attest to it with more than 150,000 dad
"graduates" of their "Boot Camp" fatherhood workshops.
A non-profit program operating at more than 250 community hospitals,
clinics, schools and churches, Boot Camp For New Dads is celebrating its
16th year helping dads jump into fatherhood and seize the chance to make a
positive difference in their children's lives. With the mission of helping
new dads face both the challenges and opportunities of fatherhood, Boot Camp
For New Dads has provided "hands on" education in the overall care of their
babies. With more than 4.1 million births last year alone (National Center
for Health Statistics), and approximately 1.5 million men becoming new dads
every year, it's more important than ever for fathers to realize that being
a "good provider" is only part of the very central role they have in their
children's lives.
Boot Camp Beginnings
Greg Bishop, founder of Boot Camp for New Dads, has had lots of hands-on
experience caring for babies, with 12 siblings, 4 children of his own and
numerous nieces and nephews. Bishop noticed that many men didn't seem to
enjoy caring for their babies. In response, he founded Boot Camp for New
Dads at Irvine Medical Center (CA) in 1990 and has volunteered as Head Coach
ever since.
"I can't imagine a more rewarding activity than helping new dads step up to
the challenge of fatherhood. These guys are inspiring and should make all
men proud, because once they understand how much they are needed, they
deliver the goods," Bishop says.
National media, including news segments on ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN as well as
articles in Life, CHILD, Ladies Home Journal magazines, Reader's Digest and
others, have helped fuel the expansion of Boot Camp For New Dads, reaching
thousands of new dads nationwide. The program is designed to bring a dad's
perspective to the 1.5 million men who become fathers each year across
America, and is now expanding internationally. Adding to broad recognition
as a best practice, the U.S. Navy has just named it a Model Program.
Spanish and English
Determined to reach fathers everywhere, Boot Camp For New Dads has 12
Spanish language sites throughout the United States. The organization has
created the only curriculum in Spanish for new fathers. The Spanish version
of the Boot Camp video helps support the facilitator and the "veterano"
father in teaching the new dads to take care of the newborn baby and mother.
