Island Cruises, the UK cruise holiday company, have today announced that for the first time they are to offer cadetships onboard both the Island Escape and the new Island Star cruise ships. The first three cadets will be joining the Island Escape in February, with a further three to join the Island Star in September, to achieve cruise industry recognised training and career development.
Stuart Horne, Operations Director; ‘It is unusual for a company of Island Cruises size to offer cadetships however, we see it as a great investment in our future Captains.
‘I believe that during their three years with us the cadets will not only be able to learn about the navigational, engineering and hotel aspects of a cruise ship, but also the commercial aspect such as customer satisfaction, revenue generation onboard and business strategies.’
During their cadetship with Island Cruises the cadets will achieve either a Foundation Degree in Marine Operations or Marine Engineering depending on their chosen career. These initial qualifications, which provide the recognised foundations to becoming a Captain or Chief Engineer, are enhanced with training in Island Cruises unique approach to shipboard commercial management.
Having successfully completed the initial three years Island Cruises will offer the cadets a further three years employment, enabling them to build on their successes.
