Digicore's Vehicle Tracking Helps Thames Water Drive Down Fuel Costs
May 12, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Thames Water, the largest water and wastewater services supplier in the UK, has achieved substantial reductions in fuel consumption following the installation last year of a vehicle tracking and fleet management system across about 1,200 vehicles within its fleet. The solution, utilising DigiCore’s C-track system and part of a wider efficiency programme, has enabled Thames Water to cut fuel usage by almost ten per cent, equating to 161,000 litres of diesel fuel.In addition, significant environmental benefits have also been realised as a result of these fleet savings, with reductions in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of approximately 429 tonnes. Thames Water is committed to achieving best-practise in environmental management and this cut in CO2 forms part of its drive to minimise emissions of greenhouse gases.
Thames Water selected DigiCore last year to develop a telematics-based vehicle tracking and fleet management solution that would support the company’s ongoing efficiency programme through the optimisation of its fleet operation. To date, the C-track solution has been installed in approximately 1,200 vehicles, operated by the company’s service engineers, and is designed to allow Thames Water to increase productivity, reduce overheads and achieve tangible operating efficiencies.
Tony Head, Project Sponsor at Thames Water commented: “We are pleased with the results that have been achieved to date and anticipate even greater improvements and wider benefits in the future as the C-track solution becomes embedded within our business and operational processes. The C-track system forms an essential aspect of our overall efficiency programme.”
Tom O’Connor, Managing Director of DigiCore Ltd said: “These savings underline the real benefits that can be achieved by using the C-track system. This technology can fundamentally change the way business is conducted and ultimately enables fleet operators and asset owners to work smarter by using the knowledge that vehicle tracking and fleet management tools offer.”
C-track is a sophisticated fleet management system that adopts the latest technology to provide a comprehensive real-time vehicle management tool. This proven solution provides vital information about mobile assets and workforce, and offers a scaleable mobile solution that meets the complex needs of car, van and commercial vehicle fleet operators.
