Bordeaux 2005 – Once In A Lifetime?

May 10, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Lifestyle News
Not only is it exceptional, say those who have tried the wines, it is singular. The 2005 growing season was long and largely dry. The days were hot but not too hot and the nights were cool, allowing the grapes to ripen with balanced tannins, acids and sugars. The wines, apparently, will be greater than great.

With all that said, now is the time to get in on the best deals on the best wines from the Bordeaux 2005 vintage. Buying now, before the wines are bottled and on store shelves (if they ever reach store shelves, which in many cases in unlikely), is called buying en primeur – while the wine is still maturing in the barrel.

The main advantage of buying en primeur is to purchase the wine at its initial release price. It is expected that if these wines do make their way into wine shops they will be much more expensive, which is historically true for great vintages – and 2005 was beyond great. En primeur purchasing gives buyers the assurance that they have owned a wine since before it was even bottled so that when they subsequently come to drink it they know exactly where the wine has been (and how it has been stored) all its life. Provenance is priceless.
