But according to Paul Falzone, CEO of bricks and mortar The Right One and Together Dating service as well as online dating service elove.com, "Men who are dating single moms should take heed. Even though she may say she doesn’t need to celebrate the day or have time for anything, you should still try to make the day as special as possible for her."

And by that, Falzone doesn’t mean dragging her to an overbooked restaurant, with children in tow to wait two hours for a meal. There are other ways to show your appreciation for your single mom partner. Falzone offers several tips for celebrating the day:

Check with mom first. Single moms are usually moving in a dozen directions at once and may crave some rest and relaxation. BEFORE you make any plans, check in with your single mom partner. Several days prior to Mother’s Day, tell her you would like to plan something special and ask her how she would like to spend her day.

Quiet time. So, your single mom divulged that she would really like some quiet time on Mother’s Day. Why not arrange for the babysitter to come in while you whisk her over to a Spa for a relaxing day of beauty? Or, if she doesn’t want to go out, how about cooking her favorite meal (or ordering take-out) and dining by candlelight after the kids have gone to bed?

Planning a "family" day out. If your single mom partner expresses a desire for a family outing, consider activities that everyone might enjoy, but that are also age appropriate for the children. Biking, hiking, sailing, going to the zoo, beach, aquarium or picnicking at a park are "crowd pleasing" activities. Check with the kids first, to gauge their interest and ensure the day is a success.

Marking the day as special. Giving her flowers, chocolate or some other thoughtful gift will mark the day for your sweetheart and show her how special she is. Get younger kids involved in celebrating Mother’s Day by encouraging them to make cards or gifts. Talk with her older children to find out what they have planned for mom and ask if they need help.

Falzone noted, "Most of all, remember that Mother’s Day is all about her. Find out what she really likes and really wants to do and then make it happen."
