Tsunami Relief Efforts - Metropolitan New York Area - A Personal Effort
January 07, 2005 (PRLEAP.COM) Media News
Like so many of us, the scope of the tsunami catastrophe in Southeast Asia, has overwhelmed me with so many different feelings. They have ranged from astonishment, shock, helplessness and compassion. All of which have lead me to my present actions. I firmly believe that one individual does make a difference. I have been moved by certain stories and events that have emerged:
A mosque in New York was lacking donations to Sri Lanka due to their lack of getting media attention on their plight.
Senator Hillary Clinton stated that ordinary items such as cartons to box donated goods were needed by organizations.
Professional and cultural organizations with links in Southeast Asia were looking for donations.
The internet, once again, is proving instrumental in providing information, accepting donations and getting the story and needs out to the world community.
I have spent some time since that eventful Sunday looking at news reports and surfing the web for information. It is my hope that the information I have provided here will allow others to identify those organizations and individuals that are in the Metropolitan New York community that are "acting locally and thinking globally" to assist those on a short-term or long-term basis to overcome the hardships in front of our brothers and sisters in the devastated areas.
I will continue to update this information on a regular basis.
Give of yourself…
