Hollywood (April 23, 2006) – Actors who have yet to be discovered are turning to reality TV to get their face noticed by millions. Casting on these shows is usually done by asking for a videotape or staging an open audition for contestants.
Open casting calls can result in lines that stretch around the block with every Tom, Dick, and Harriet waiting to cash in on America’s new habit, reality television.
What these shows look for is people that are interesting, outgoing, and those who will “make good TV.” Each reality show also has its own separate requirements that pertains to that particular show. For instance, The Apprentice requires that one think creatively and show leadership.
To see what kind of personality each show is looking for, an actor’s best bet is to observe the current cast of the show they want to be on. Those people are the type of people they want on the show.
Most shows will also try to pigeonhole the contestants as “the bad guy”, “the vixen”, “the smart girl”, etc. Capitalizing on a certain trait can make you more desirable by the casting directors who are looking to fill a part.
So where do you find these auditions?
Explore Talent www.exploretalent.com has listings of reality TV auditions on its site which its members can utilize. Membership also lets the actor put his headshots and resume online so casting directors can quickly scan their profile.
