Hollywood (April 23, 2006) – Explore Talent www.exploretalent.com recommends their members invest some free time this summer working on their craft to keep them in the running for upcoming auditions.Actors can still take that vacation they’ve been planning all year, but for at least 2 weeks out of their summer they can also do something productive by signing up for an acting camp or workshop. These camps held all over the country are intensive programs crammed into what usually amounts to just a few weeks. Some schools even offer these classes across the Atlantic, making it possible to take a “working vacation” in Paris, coming away with an education and a great experience to share with friends and family.
These camps involve instruction in voice, movement, audition techniques, scene study, character building, improvisation, and performing in front of the camera. Some will even have the actor perform in front of Hollywood agents looking to sign new talent. Resumes and professional headshots are provided at other camps.
One of the most prestigious schools in the United States, the New York Film Academy www.nyfa.com provides acting programs for both teens and adults. Their U.S. locations include New York, Princeton University, Harvard University, Universal Studios in Hollywood, and MGM Studios in Florida. Locations abroad include Paris, France and Florence, Italy along with Oxford University in England.
Young Actor’s Camp, www.youngactorscamp.com a company that caters to kids and teens has an advanced program that is a sort of “fantasy camp” for actors. For 2-4 weeks, young thespians go through a core program for acting in film, commercials, along with doing some improv. Outside the core program, boys and girls can choose electives to study like learning a new accent, TV and soap-opera acting, print modeling, or training in comedy. In the evening, students can also pick from filmmaking, stunt training, or image consulting to round out their resume.
Camps usually run from 2-4 weeks in length while age ranges are from 8-18.
No matter what their age is, actors young and old can make this summer a productive one by signing up for a camp or workshop and improving upon their craft in addition to working on their tan.
